What do I love about this photo?
My favorite moments during this Bar Mitzvah service at Chabad of Cedarhurst were during the reading of the Torah. All the commotion.Various men are called up and surround the bar mitzvah boy, his father, uncle, 2 rabbis, the pointing - everything. All the energy. To me this is where the journalistic photography style plays a crucial role. Often we do posed Temple photos on a weekday before the actual service. If not captured the week before, I am relegated to a balcony and not allowed to move for one hour. Capturing everything from the same angle. It was a rare occurence to capture the service live and up so close. It is that intimacy that I love about this photo.
